How Crypto Card Cashback Works
Crypto card cashback rewards work differently from traditional bank card cashback. Instead of earning cash back into a bank account, you earn rewards in cryptocurrency — typically Bitcoin, ETH, or the card issuer's native token. The rate is applied to every qualifying purchase and credited automatically.
Net annual value is the most important metric. A card advertising 5% cashback but charging a $120 annual fee delivers less real value than a no-fee card offering 2% on high monthly spend. Our calculator automatically deducts annual and monthly fees so you see exactly what you keep.
Staking vs. No-Staking Rewards
Many high-rate cards (Crypto.com, Nexo) require you to stake or lock up the issuer's native token to unlock top-tier cashback. If you factor in the opportunity cost of locked capital, the effective rate is often lower than advertised. Cards like Kolo and KAST offer flat cashback with no staking requirement, making them simpler for most users.
Which Card is Best for My Spend?
The best card depends on your monthly spend level:
- Under $500/mo: Focus on no-fee cards with flat cashback. Fees easily erode rewards at low spend.
- $500–$2,000/mo: Mid-tier staking cards become worth it if you already hold the token. No-staking cards still competitive.
- Over $2,000/mo: Premium cards with higher rates and perks (lounge access, metal card) justify their fee at scale.
